Academic Year Officer Appointments: Epistoleus, Theta Mu Chapter

Officers were recently announced for the 2018-2019 academic year and I am pleased to announce I have been selected as Epistoleus for the Theta Mu Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated.  In recent months, I have been active behind the scenes taking photographs and designing flyers for the chapter’s social media.  In this role, I will serve as thechapter’s Public Relations and Social Media Chair, Historian and Archivist.  This includes management of the social media account.

I hoped for this position in particular since I have skills in photography and videography, and a keen understanding of marketing from my brand ambassador role at MCG.  I am looking forward to maintaining the chapter’s documents and memorabilia.  I will also take steps to expand the chapter’s social media presence and ensure our public image reflects organizational goals.  Visit the Rowan University ProfLink or visit on Instagram @thetamu_SGRho

Happy Birthday to Me w/ Family & INSPIMIND

Today, I celebrate another year of life.  I have a lot to be thankful for.  I was surprised earlier this week by the team at INSPIMIND who treated me to Red Hawk Diner.  That was really sweet of them and indicative of the type of caring, family-orientated organization they operate.   Also check out this photo with me and my dad.  The fam treated me to NINJA-NYC which I definitely recommend.

Career Update: Photo & Video Intern

I know this seems like Deja Vu. No, you aren’t seeing double. Yes, I scored a second internship. I was selected to work as a Photography and Videography intern with award-winning commercial photographer, Jill Lotenberg.

This opportunity is particularly exciting because I’ll be shadowing a female entrepreneur with an established base and carved niche. Personally, I started out in the freelance capacity, and admittedly, I wasn’t very familiar with pricing policies, cancellation policies, scheduling, building a client base etc. So this opportunity will allow me a hands-on intuitive experience where I’ll get to use my on Canon EOS DSLR. I’ll be strengthening my proficiency in CaptureOne and the Adobe Creative Suite.

I won’t have time to spend on the beach this summer, but I’m looking forward to drone shoots, yacht shoots and capturing footage of New York’s movers and shakers in real estate.

Career Update: Film Production & Multimedia Intern

INSPIMIND LogoI am pleased to announce I accepted a summer internship with INSPIMIND in Paterson, NJ. In this position, my major duties include coordinating video production activities, editing footage, adding subtitles to videos, promoting on social media platforms, photography, planning & scheduling shoots, and collaborating with both the Production Team and Content Development Team.


Things kicked off to a great start last week with a video shoot at Henry P. Becton Regional High School in East Rutherford, NJ. We ended the evening with a team-building hike at Mills Reservation in Upper Montclair / Cedar Grove. One of the things that struck my interest with this organization is its ongoing commitment to the community. INSPIMIND aims to continue the cycle of higher education and foster leadership, particularly with young minorities. I’m thrilled to be able to document its activity through film and social media, while exploring SEO and developing an online visual strategy to promote INSPIMIND as it reaches out to colleges/universities, high schools, and middle schools.

PROS Leadership, Awarded for Training Achievement

Over the course of the Spring semester, I served as a Transfer Mentor and PROS (Peer Referral & Orientation Staff) at Rowan University.  I am pleased to announce I was awarded for Outstanding Training Achievement.  This has been a phenomenal experience and I cherish the moments where I can positively contribute to the campus community.

TV1S18W - Capture Teleprompter Dead

Take a look at my face in this pic *gasp*

I can laugh about this experience in retrospect. At this precise moment, the teleprompter became possessed in Professor Winkler’s TV Production 1 class. I was Producer [slash] Talent A in this newscast and there was no opportunity to STOP the production and have a do-over. Luckily for me, since I wrote the copy and tweaked several times … I practically had it recited. Everything turned out okay.

Even though this is a clearly a case of things going WRONG (and this semester had plenty), unintentional learning provided some of the strongest lessons I’ll take away from these experiences. My crew encountered last minute scrambling and schedule changes because our Spring semester was Winter Wonderland and we had freak snowstorms several times. We booked equipment for an outdoor shoot on GREEN environmental initiatives, but our campus was winter WHITE. Oh, and I can’t forget the clicking sound of my hard drive going dead the day before I had to submit final edits or my SD card going wonky in the middle of a photoshoot.

What skills have I developed? RESILIANCE, PROBLEM SOLVING, PERSISTANCE, FLEXIBILITY, IMPROVISATION (and countless others). These are what I like to refer to as positive side effects from the collegiate experience.

This PhotoVoice project features a selected subject of interest and multiple locations / shoots.  This topic was selected because Rowan University is located in South Jersey and students are always on a quest to find interesting and FREE things to do.  Moreover, there are over 100 institutions in the Greater Philadelphia area.  Emphasis was placed on locations that can be enjoyed at no cost by people under the age of 21.
